If Saddam is alive, it's not strange that he's not in the public eye. Considering our eagerness to surprise him with a cruise missile/bunker buster barrage the first night of Iraqi Freedom, Saddam would not go into public for fear of being bombed as soon as the US learned of his whereabouts.
